Kim Yong Moon

He was born in 1956 in Osan, Korea. He graduated from Hong ik University Ceramics Department in Korea in 1982 and earned a master’s degree from the same university in 1985. He held more than 50 personal exhibitions between 1998-2020. He had been organized Macsabal Symposium 22 times which is created by him, in Korea, China and Turkey. His five different books have been published with Macsabal Silk Road titled. He served as a jury member in the 4th Ceramic Tile Competition in Argentina, Seres09 in Eskişehir in 2009, and the Muammer Çakı Ceramic Competition at Anadolu University, GSF Ceramic Department. In 2018 and 2019, he is the creator and president of the International Traditional and Fantastic Macsabal Competition, which was organized by the Korean Cultural Center and Hacettepe University FoFA Ceramics Department in Ankara. He is currently working as a visitor professor at Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics. He has been promoting macsabal (the bowl), which is a part of Korean cultures’ everyday life, to the world with the symposiums, has organized for 22 years. Macsabals’ literally mean is handmade ceramic bowl which used for eating and drinking in daily life. He fires his bowls (macsabals), which he glazed with different glaze combinations, with the patterns he draws with his fingers, and in his own built kilns that can reach to 1300 ° C. He calls these unique kilns “macsabal kiln”. One of these kilns is in Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics, where he has been working since 2010. Tenth in 2020 which will be held at Hacettepe University International Macsabal Wood Firing Symposium and with the symposium will be held in 2021 in Korea and China, Korea-Turkey and world culture, will meet once again with contemporary ceramic art. In recent years, he has focused on the glaze variations he applies on ceramic tiles and the patterns he draws with his fingers. These paintings consist of multicolored nature abstractions. In addition to his colorful paintings on ceramics, there are forms consisting of abstract mountains, trees, tree branches and bodies created with brush strokes that he applied with black ink on traditional Korean papers. In addition to the bowls he throws on potter’s wheel and the totems he been building by hand for years, he has met with art lovers in Ankara with colorful acrylic paintings that he opened both in Çankaya Municipality Contemporary Arts Center and in Zülfü Livaneli Cultural Center in 2020
